Older Dog Availability
Occasionally, we make the heartfelt decision to place a young or middle-aged dog into a carefully selected pet home. While it’s never easy to say goodbye, we know this transition can be the start of a beautiful new chapter – both for the dog and for their new family.
Why Are Older Dogs Available?
In any responsible breeding program, there are times when a dog’s path leads them away from breeding. Whether due to changes in their suitability for the program or simply because it’s in their best interest, these dogs are lovingly rehomed with families who can offer them undivided attention and a life filled with love.
Adopting an older dog can be a wonderful alternative to raising a puppy:
Well-Socialized: Older dogs are often already familiar with people and environments, making their transition smoother.
House-Trained: Skip the early stages of training – these dogs typically come with good manners!
Bonding Potential: Golden Retrievers, regardless of age, have an incredible ability to bond with anyone who shows them love, affection, and, of course, tasty treats.
While it’s bittersweet to see them go, we’re comforted knowing they’ll become the center of attention in a family who adores them.
The Matching Process
Finding the perfect home for an older dog requires time, care, and mutual understanding.
Meet & Greet:
Prospective families must visit in person to spend time with the dog in various settings.
This ensures that everyone feels it’s truly a "match made in heaven."
Full Transparency:
We’ll share the reasons for rehoming the dog openly and honestly.
A written guarantee will accompany the adoption for your peace of mind.
Adjustment Period:
We recommend dedicating a week or two to help your new companion settle in.
If it turns out the match isn’t the right fit, we’ll take the dog back immediately and refund any fees paid.
Requirements for Prospective Families
To ensure our dogs are placed in the best possible homes, we take the screening process seriously. Be prepared to share details about:
Your reason for adopting an older dog.
Your expectations for their role in your family.
Your family environment and lifestyle.
Your home setup, including space and facilities for the dog.
This thorough process helps us feel confident that our dogs are going to loving, stable homes where they’ll thrive.
